Challenge: The Moon II (Expert Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8L USM
Date: Sep 2, 2012
Date Uploaded: Sep 2, 2012

fun shoot this, borowed the mini fig of my friends who make custom minifigs,
bought the lunar module of ebay £40 and set up a table in my cellar, used a bag of slightly gone off cement based floor screed for the moon, was a good match for how i wanted it to be.

two lights harsh light of the sun right and a low fill big softbox just left of camera.

5dmk2 28-70l 2.8

focus stack in photoshop of 9 exposures, flatten, reduce by 50% for my poor old computer, copied moon and stars from the ipad that was in the first few frames of the shoot with google earth on it.

cloned tool the rest of the sky in

sharpened.

save for web

some funny ones i did with other figures like a knight on horse back

i did a straight moon shot, bit on seeing the challenge and the recent news of his sad passing i wanted to do a tribute.

not sure how it will go down with voters

Very nice work with the set-up and the focus-stacking.

I wonder if the neon coloration of the Earth bothered some voters, or if it was the lack of an actual image of the Moon, because it should have scored much better IMO.

This is a great idea and I like everything with one technical thing. In order for the Earth to be in a state of 'Fullness' as in a full moon the shadows cast on the moon would at a minimum be generally toward the earth because to portray fullness the reflective line of sight would be toward the earth. That being said 6 for the capture and Idea and +1 for homage to Niel Armstrong 7

Top vote.
Creative? Check. Legos? Check. Moon rocks? Check.

Only thing missing is Michael Collins looking out the window being relegated to a trivia question for nerds.

Just my 2 cents worth, but I think this had the potential for being THE PHOTO in this challenge. In my humble opinion, I would've left off the plastic guy, blurred the little plastic things holding the flag to the pole, used some type of filter on the whole photo so it softened it to make it seem more realistic... From the Thumbnail I was stunned, it looked like you had shot it on the moon!! I'd love to see this redone with some more filters on it... But My hats off to you for the MOST origional and moveing idea of the entire challenge!!!
