I am without a vehicle (have been for almost two years), so I texted a kid and asked him to stop at the grocery store on the way home from school and bring me "three perfect, yellow bananas... It's okay to separate them from their bunch... try to get them with the least amount of brown as possible, please."

His reply? "Okay"

No question as to why I wanted them (I don't eat bananas). I assume he figured it out pretty quickly. (He's a bright kid. But, he's not as stunningly gorgeous as I am. *grin*)

He FINALLY got home... I rushed into the living room saying, "My BANANAS ARE HERE?! Oh... hi, Kid."

He looked sheepish. "Yeah... so I totally forgot the bananas thing."

*sigh*

... I'd waited literally all day for The Banana Arrival. Ordered three instead of one, since I'd actually never poked holes in a banana before. Well, in any artistic way.

(I know, right? I'm so inexperienced in the ways of the world. But, I digress.)

Turns out he'd twisted something in his leg whilst running Cross Country practice after school. I'd texted him before practice (waited all day 'til he got out of school, since he's not allowed to text during class, of course. Timed it perfectly ... after school, before practice.)

And, he forgot them. He FORGOT MY BANANAS.

So... I iced him.

NO! Not THAT way! I put ice on his boo-boo.

Waited for The Banana Arrival again. Fortunately, the gas station one mile from our secluded home sells bananas.

FIFTY cents apiece! Robbery! Still... cheaper than driving back into town.

Who knew? I could'a WALKED the mile there and back to get a banana earlier! Ha!

Yeah... so I poked holes in a banana.

For a long time. Then, I printed out a butterfly shot I'd taken earlier and stuck it on the banana for interest.

It was okay... but far from stunning. :D

It reminded me, as I was doing it, of this image of AimeeTheToo's (no relation to me):

She sat and poked stuff into fruit, too. It still is bright in my dim memory. It's BRILLIANT!

Hers is brilliant. Mine is... uhhh... holes in a banana.

I would have LOVED to have had a real butterfly.

Perhaps tomorrow, if the banana is still "good", I'll set it out on a piece of posterboard and see what happens...

But really... I liked the fact that it looks like the butterfly was drawn... brings more interest to the scene, I think which... after examining my goal, is why I made it BW instead of color.

Well, that... and the fact that my printer is on the fritz and doesn't do true color... but a green cast.

So, perhaps not. :D

Okay... Next Day. Didn't like the fake butterfly. Tried to get one in the wild in a net and put it in my light tent. Nothin'.

Found a bee. SO EXCITED!

He. Was. A. Nightmare.

That bee!

Anyway... I wanted him to be content on a a 'flower'. He liked the leaf. *sigh* I wanted him on a "photographic third". He liked the leaf.

I don't like bees.

What's a girl to do?

I let him be on the "leaf".

And there you have it.

I don't think the banana will hold up for another day... so... there you have it.

Bee. On Banana.

Frustrated Photographer.

(But, REALLY! WHAT was I imagining... bringing a bee into my house and thinking I'd direct him about how to pose? *sigh* So silly.)

Gorgeous, Lydia. If you ever give up photography, you have a future in tattoos. But not bee wrangling :-)

Hahah!! Your story was so much better than mine! I've brought butterflies inside my bathroom before for photo shoots -- but never a bee!

I love that story!!! Not to mention the hours it had to take to poke creative design holes in a bananna!! And the Bee... OMG ... Fried Green Tomatoes, the Bee Tamer! You are a creative genius!

Ah the story of my life before I had car too ;) Great things do come out of the juices of being stuck to work within constraints. To me , too many choices overwhelm. 50c for a banana, not too bad, but yeah, take $1 at a local Starbucks. 25c seems reasonable. I've gone OT, back to business... Congrats on the top10 finish!

Best story behind the banana photograph by far! And a rather cool banana, too. I'd never even think to tattoo a banana! And bee wrangling? Seriously? You wrangle bees??? Fab. Absolutely fab.

Very cute! Quite a lot of effort went into decorating that banana :-) The matching bee is a nice addition. Looks like a Carpenter Bee, so I am fancifully imagining this one specialized in hole punching LOL.

I'd love to know how you did this, and the fly to match, see you on the front page, you clever artist!
