I got out of bed at 1AM on Sunday morning the 21st. I had prepared to shoot the shooting stars taking place that weekend, the Orionid meteor shower. I drove to Guenella Pass, south of Georgetown CO, which is around 10,000 feet above see level. I was hoping for clear skies and lots of stars. I arrived and about 75 percent of the sky was covered by a thin layer of clouds which moved off after a couple hours. I saw meteors for sure, not as many as folks talked about on the weather reports. I captured a few too. The yield of photos with meteors is very low. I had my 5D and my 1D taking 18 sec exposures continuously for 4 hours. About 4 exposures per minute each for about 4 hours! It was around 32 degrees and I was walking around checking things and making minor adjustments, watching to see if one part of the sky was better than another, it wasn't. They come from everywhere it seems.

On my way back home, this lake was right next to the road. I arrived at the exact perfect time for perfect light and remembered the Reflection challenge was due the same night. I took a few handheld realizing quickly I needed the tripod, so I go that set up quickly, and exposed a few more. I underexposed this by one stop and exposure time was ten seconds without any filters. I added a slight gradient to the sky and a couple global adjustments in LR4, no spot editing at all. I suppose I could have entered it as a minimal edit, but I like the slight gradient in the sky too.

Lovely Dennis. Wish I could stand there with you my friend, maybe tip a fine single malt, maybe a fine fine cigar. Very well done!

Such a peaceful scene. The lights from the buildings adds an extra dimension to this.

Despite the pro image quality, it's also a wonderful composition and top notch processing. Top Ten or better. Bumped to 9.
