Sunday I went to the Big Ten men's soccer finals between Michigan and Michigan State held on the Northwestern University campus. Michigan State won in overtime.

I received a comment about the crop. I agree the crop may be too large, but this is something I wrestled with. On a tighter vertical crop I lost the shadow. I like the shadow because it show how high they are. On a tighter horizontal crop I chop the player in the background in half. He does not add much but I found leaving half of him disconcerting. If I had it to do over I might have cropped differently.

This is doing better than I anticipated. Things usually go the other direction. Also, sports photography is more challenging than it seems like it should be. For a couple hours I had excellent athletes performing amazing feats right in front of me, but it is hard to catch a clear well focused shot at the right moment from a decent angle. I have renewed respect for folks like MattO that catch amazing shots on a routine basis.

Post challenge: Wow. Thanks. My first red ribbon.

This has a lot of potential... I would have cropped in much tighter on the two players, leaving out all of the extra space and the #13 guy who didn't really add anything to the scene.
