Just like a huge umbrella, Intense mountain wave cloud at sunset over Boulder, CO.

[Dec. 4th, 2012 10:28:55 PM]

Guess I should have gone to the trinkets store and bought a bunch of drink umbrellas. Those clouds are clearly umbrella-like. I think voters are getting pretty narrow minded about creative interpretations of challenges. This is much, much more interesting to me than some stupid prop things. This is a pretty good photograph which meets the challenge. For those of you who cannot see the clouds that are like giant umbrellas, you need to stop thinking in such a narrow way. There's a big world out there. It is not interesting to do a set up shot of a literal translation of a challenge. But, I guess I'm wrong, because this image scored sub 5.

I was so surprised this scored below a 5 - I gave it a 7 and was going to go back and up my votes on a few shots, this one included, after I finished voting. I got distracted and didn't follow through. These clouds are not common - they look as if they are protecting the trees from the coming storm. This shot is perfectly photographed, processed just right and is a creative and interesting take on the challenge.

I did a set up shot and it was boring. The model was too close to the b/g to give it the oof look it needed and it scored higher than yours - ridiculous.

I have been away for quite some time and only enter sporadically and I am amazed at how photos are now being judged on DP - people used to maybe take off one point if they didn't think it fit the challenge but now - 1, 2 and 3 votes are the norm. I long for the old days and have gone back to voting as my way of protesting and your entry is another incentive for me to continue. Thank you .

I was a 7. Clouds could also be used as a diffuser/filter, much as a shoot through umbrella or light tent. Literal understandings are 90+ % of DPC challenges and you should know by now you are going to get hammered Richard.

I suppose you are getting killed again for your open minded interpretation of the challenge :). What a gorgeous sky! 8 Voted earlier.

I'm giving the benefit of the doubt on interpretations of umbrella. I can stretch this a bit to be the umbrella of the world, but barely.

This is a gorgeous photo that you should be proud of.
