No strobes - just a constant light and a committed model.

I asked her to be completely dead pan with her expression - I wish I hadn't made that choice now...

Really hard to get a good image with this technique - I should have defaulted to strobes but felt that would be three exposures by a different (though of course legitimate) route. I wanted to give it a shot without strobes.

Post ribbon:

Very surprised this got the Blue (or any ribbon) - Thanks!

The comment below about what sort of expression do I wish I'd got. I have no answer and this one was very deliberate - the model delivered as asked and I should be happy.

Capturing it was tricky but fun. The model thought it was like a party game:

Dim room
Dark background
Dark floor
One 'redhead' constant light with barn doors
Camera on tripod, manual focus
30 second exposure.

1. Model poses, I shine the light on her
2. I press the shutter, start iPhone timer
3. On 9 seconds I shout go, she moves to the middle undresses and puts her dress on the chair, continues to move around until I shout go again. Meanwhile I have moved the light source on to her
4. On 19 seconds I shout go and she moves to the right of the image a makes a mirrored pose until the shutter closes, in the meantime I have moved the light to follow her.

It doesn't sound a lot to do but at one point, I was so busy fiddling with the iPhone, shouting and moving the light that I forgot to press the shutter!

Also, because the middle zone needed more light light for the moving model to show up, I had to vary the time the light was switched on for each zone - probably 4 seconds on the left, 7 seconds in the middle and 6 seconds on the right - or something like that. This is in addition to the ambient light in the room and was easier than trying to mess with the exposure once set up.

It's not quite as clean as I would like but I can hardly complain.

Thanks for the votes and comments.

I would put this in my top 25 I've ever seen on this site. Don't ask for exact placement because that fluctuates, but this is fantastically interspectacular.

Crongrats well deserved.
I was worried the uptight crowd would vote this down.
Don't second guess yourself on this you you hit it out of the park.

The dead pan is what makes the shot, imo. It was the perfect choice. I also think it's much more effective this way than with strobes. Perfect as is!

IMO it would be better to use the title to tell a story than to show how long the exposure was. It could be a wonderful idea. But I appreciate the effort :)

Nudity can be a low scorer in DPC land but I hope this one does well. Very tasteful and a nice a nice take on the challenge. I would love to know the process behind capturing and the post processing of this image.

Very good triptych - a great idea and one that is unique to this challenge that's for sure. I might have opted for a little more color, but that's me. This should challenge for a top three spot for sure. A ten for technique and a ten for execution.
