 This is for my friend Sharleen who lost her fight with Cancer earlier this month.

In her younger days she was a keen, competitive photographer (on film and slides still). Only last year she decided to get back into photography, obviously with a digital camera. She was so happy with her new Nikon. She said it was a life long dream come true.

Sharleen loved flowers. She would always have flowers around her.

Trying to combine these 2 passions in her life, I wanted to create something special, different. Sharleen wasn't a "pastel" type of lady. It took me a while to think of something suitable.


These Orchids are a bright cerise with a white edge and I think the sombre B&W works for them in this context.

Technically I didn't do much. Shot in my conservatory during daylight with a black BG. Converted to B&W and played with the levels to get the petals really dark and the white edge really white.
I made a second layer to darken the stem and flowers on the back of the stem a bit.
Rotated to get a more pleasing arch.
A bit of sharpening and I think a bit of a crop.
