Challenge: Mirrors (Advanced Editing II)
Collection: Challenge Photos
Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: A half-inch wide patch of Hubertus, WI
Date: Sep 11, 2004
Aperture: f/18
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100s
Galleries: Nature, Macro
Date Uploaded: Sep 11, 2004

Technical Details:
Shot with Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM with Canon 50mm f/1.4 reversed. Magnification at image plane was 2.16x. Cropped from 10mm frame width to approx. 3.5mm. Lit with Sunpak 544 flash @ 1/8 power with LumiQuest 80-20 bouncer with gold insert installed.
About this shot:
This little guy was about 5mm long total. He came to investigate me while I varnished doors. I got him to hold still as he crouched in the corner of one of the panel insets in the door. I got three shots, and he had enough of me. I did have to shoo him away so I didn't spray him with varnish though, LOL.
On loading the shot I noticed that his (very convex) eyes reflected an ultra-wide-angle view of his world, including the lens mount of the 50mm lens and the flash head. I thought this would make a nice, subtle shot for the "mirrors" challenge.

He has nice lashes. This close up they're more fascinating than "ick".

Nice macro - most likely way better than 1:1. Mirrir is not evident to me.

Your going to scare the pants off so many people! Wish there was a camera set up so we could see the shots after! Seriously nice shot!

Very impressive macro. Never seen such a close one of a spider.

Sensational spider shot, love it. Link to "mirrors", which I assume is the eyes, is a little tenuous and may be missed by many.
