Very pleased with the finish and the wonderful comments. Thanks everyone!

The Subject: Getzen David Taylor Model bass trombone on top of a few of the exercises I use during practice, including Arbans and Daily Routine for Bass Trombone by David Vining.

The Resolution: This is more of a long term goal than a resolution. In order to stay sharp and continue to be able to play, practice is a must. My personal goal for the year is to become increasingly proficient on my horn, both technically and musically

Lighting and set up: Shot on the center island in our kitchen using light coming in from a window...

Processing: Crop and rotation using LR4. Added subtle b/w layer in overlay mode using Silver Efex Pro 2 to add contrast and reduce saturation slightly. Resize to 1600, slight sharpen using Topaz In Focus, Resize for web.

Comments: Some folks have commented on how daunting and difficult the scales look on the music behind the horn. Scales are easy...it is a matter of daily practice. Start slow and build up so the sound quality stays the same as the speed increases.

The approach one needs to take is to work at them routinely, daily, working through all 12 major scales using the same general approach and pattern...so that no key signature is really more difficult than any other.

Congratulations on the well deserved ribbon. Not easy to shoot with all those highly reflective surfaces. I know the year I made a point to practices the cello at least 6 days a week was the year I made most progress!
