Challenge: My Left Foot (Basic Editing)

[Jan. 24th, 2013 09:19:47 PM]

I don't particularly remember if I had an idea for this one during the week. But we were scheduled to go out of town on Friday, so I had all day Thursday to figure it out. (I have a tendency to wait for the last day...)

Well -- I came up with the idea on thursday morning, found out Friday's flight was cancelled due to a big storm coming through, and we had to fly out on Thursday afternoon.

But I finally had an idea!!!

Chinese, take out container, and I had a title!!! Toefu!! I never have good titles! I don't care if I have to leave in two hours and I'm not packed -- I have a title!!

15 minutes. I can take 15 minutes and shoot this.

First, dump out the leftover rice into a bowl, cut the bottom out of the leftover container and stick my foot through it.

Hmmmm... insteps are kinda tall... cut out part of the front of the container, too.

Stick a chair near the table, put the foot up on the table -- ummm... this really isn't very comfortable. and the rice container is sticking up in the air!! Hmmmm... if I sit up straight and shoot down a bit, and if the table's dark, and I don't include the bottom, you can't really tell that the container is sticking up so far. After all, there are different sized containers, right? Here you can see part of the leg and here's the foot without the rice. I had to move the foot back and forth to try to get the box to sit "straight"

Now -- I just need to mound the rice around my toes. No problem! The foot should be blocking the hole on the bottom, right?

Wrong!

I put the rice in, it all fell in around my foot, and most fell out the hole in the bottom of the box, onto the table. A couple of pieces stuck to the toes and the foot, and some on top of the foot.

Then came the next problem. It may be difficult putting rice in amongst your own toes, but trying to get your foot out of a leftover box 1/2 full or rice with more rice on the table, without making a huge mess since you're going out of town and don't have time to clean up... well... needless to say, it was difficult.

And, 17 minutes was up.

No!! I was so close!!

25 min. That's right. I have 25 minutes, not 15 minutes. I can pack quickly, can't I?

Rice cleaned up. Table wiped down. Foot in box, lean forward uncomfortably, stuff paper towels down in around foot, add rice in a nice mound, artfully arrange chopsticks, voila!!! Looking good. Can't really get anything but straight on or slightly turned, but that's ok.

Moriarty?!?!?

No!! I didn't lock up the cats!! You can't shoo a cat off the table when you're sitting an arm length away!

Get down!!

Mo!!

Don't eat the rice!!

Get down!!!

Finally -- shot done, tweak contrast, upload, pack, made it to the plane!!

Thanks for the comments!!

A brilliant take on the theme. Although, why scores of 3,2 and 1 were submitted is beyond me.

Congrats on the blue! Groaned when I saw the pun title but it works:-) Great lighting and composition is well done (although a bottle and cup of saki would pair better with the take-out Chinese). Your back story is a great illustration of what we crazy photographers will do for the shot:-)
