Wow, I soooo wasn't expecting an HM with a 6.7 in a FS, but thanks much. This is one of my personal favorites largely because I more or less planned it. In short, it wasn't a happy accident. To have it do so well is the best.

It was shot in Kentucky five minutes outside Louisville.

I wish the lead horse had also been facing the camera, or at least looking more towards the camera. Marvelous textures. These guys are SO cute

This is a new comment series for me, so please bear with me while I find my style!

(Voted earlier)

This is one of my 10s - I like it very much. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:

1. I should start by saying that I'm not a 'horsey' person and for the most part (because of that) my default position isn't one of enjoying an image of a horse. But... I love this! These horses, a bit like Icelandic horses, are very appealing with their shagginess - this is critical for your photograph because it adds interesting texture and it does great things to the most forward horse's silhouette against the light - natural feathering.

2. The overall composition with the aligned animals leads the eye into the picture and gives it depth.

3. The toning is beautiful - I wonder if there is the slightest haloing under the chest of the foreground horse but it is countered by a sense of mist.

4. you captured that combination of glow and sharpness that I enjoy in jagar's work (though of course with softer tones).

5. Then there is the interloping goat! This fellow makes the image, like a nerd at a party trying to hang out with the cool kids in the kitchen (I know the feeling well), he is as endearing as he is funny and he he is oh-so-important to your picture.

6. The shot has a sense of humour but, through you great processing, is nonetheless highly credible as a serious photograph too.

Overall, a fantastically well-balance shot.

I like the low perspective. I also like how the animals create a leading line to the rear of the picture. Nice b&w processing.
