Post processed in LR 4. I hope to vindicate my disqualification for using a preset NOT checked out or understood.

By the time we vote on this challenge I will be heading back to hospital for the 4th surgical procedure. Cancer is not a friend. Cancer kills. The damage is not in taking my health, but the steady chipping away at your mind, your willingness to fight.

IF I the surgery I hope to see it worthy as I hereby show my deepest emotion. This is me. The stark contrast, yet with detail. The man with a cane, no choice, going one direction. Me. Crossing my Rubicon. (dpc_best2012_MG_1417)

This is the photo that will inspire us all. I did not submit, look at or vote in the Art challenge for some reason. Now I know why. Because, for that very unknown reason my choices led me here......right here right now. Looking at this wonderful photograph. I hope you get to see how much we all are appreciating your share in this...... we are all on the journey.........together. Closing eyes we all look and sense the connections........ My free study for February was disqualified because I am not a stickler for rules.....I mess up.... a lot......some details seem more important to others...and I pay the price....oh well. But YOUR comment was the one that stays deeply in my heart. And I have gone back to read it many times. And you are the one who wrote it with the most sensitive and observant feelings and words. Thank you....it is YOU!!!!!!! :-)

Many others have said it, but I can't think of a better word than "powerful."

Thanks for sharing such a personal image and good luck with your health!

Hey Old Man, Great Image!!..... How about making a Print available.... through DPC. I'm sure there are a few people who might like to souvenier one (most of the ones I know will try the 'right click' first), but when that doesn't work... You are still upright and in the middle of the stream.... what else can I say, other than "Congratulations! MY FRIEND!", and you are... :))

You have managed to project such deeply personal feelings into this image. Hopefully coming round to a top ten will give you a little boost; hope you aren't feeling too rough, and that the operation did what it was hoped it would.

This is beautiful, it has depth in perspective, human endevour and the simplicity of a life long with arduous task. The dedications is of particular sensitivity and endearing in its' empathy. 8

(Comment only - already voted): Didn't even notice the title when I voted...but that's sweet. It's a wonderful image...the vignetting is a bit strong, but it's a thought provoking capture.

an apt tribute... going it alone is difficult but it also has rewards and they may not be recognizable anytime soon. Chin up! Working hard to make it to the other side will be worth it in the end!!! Love this picture.

I really like this, but I would of cropped off more of the bottom and the right hand side to give it more of a rectangle shape, I feel like I've seen this before, maybe in a SC, still great stuff, I'm sure Shez will give you a 10, you sneaky person, lol! TT for me!

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

This is a very powerful piece and wonderful dedication both to Shez and the human spirit to persevere in the river of life. I love that you made this B&W so that your viewers can better appreciate the action and meaning of this capture. There is a thin line bridge that offers safe passage to the other side. Fall off this bridge or chose to cross where there is no path and the sorrows of life and or hardships will sweep you away. At different points in our lifetimes we either cross this bridge - or we don't. There is always the option to stay on the other side of the river but to do so means one stays stuck/trapped with no hope of progress or relief. Though the path across is narrow it offers the safety of the other side - where there are stairs leading up. For this lone person who faces those stairs, the stairs leading up hold the promise of hope and a better tomorrow.

Nice! Very nice. I love the composition of this. The differences between the two section of the river... love the story one is forced to envisage while examining the image. Bravo!

Very dramatic. Nice balance of light and dark. The bottom right on the water may be a little washed out but it does help lead the eye to the stones so it does work.
