WOW! This is beautiful! Fantastically composed and executed. Very ingenious. I can't believe how good the DOF is. I'm very impressed...

I also have to agree with KDO's praise. You are a gem on this site. Thank you for sharing your art, expertise, and wisdom so generously.

(Long speechless pause)... so amazing. You are not only a person who transcends in heart, soul, and spirit; you are an artistic genius. This photo, all of these photos, are breath-taking and awe-inspiring.

Although it will go against your humble nature, please accept the following praise:

We all have much to learn from you: in life and in art.

I wonder if you know how rare you really are: one in a million, no, more like one in a billion. It is an honor to view your work and read your words. Thanks for the balance and the brilliant common sense you bring to this place.

I always meant to comment on this. It's excellent - very competently shot and a superb answer to the brief. The only thing missing from it is a ribbon!

This was a 10 from me -- I'm even more impressed that this wasn't "staged" motion! I really thought you had stuck those pieces into place in some way.

Dan, I really thought it would ribbon. But ribbon or not, the quality of the image is there to be admired. Excellent work.

Not sure if the pieces are actually hit in the air, or if they are dropped. Either way, it's still well done. Nice composition.

Ready voting, can't score you high enough, so you need to do with 10 (1 of 3)
It's not because it's perfect, it's not but its the best idea and worked out 99%
There is just one thing that you could have done and that's clone out the "white dust" on the black background...
I realy hope you score well and people won't notice or don't care...

Oh and love to know how this is done :)

Temper temper. Nice shot that captures the topic of the challenge well. Looks like it was staged but great either way. Very clean.

This has got to be my favorite in the challenge. Great idea excellent execution. This would be a great stock photo. Almost too perfect as absolutly nothing is moving in the shot, black background, two pieces still on the board... I still like it.

Great photo! How many attempts did it take to get the pieces in the right spots? This turned out great, not only technically but also in terms of what it conveys.

Very nice! Excellent sharpness and clarity of image. The reflections are controled well on the board and chess pieces. There's something in the background that looks like dirt on the backdrop? Not enough to get me to vote lower, but something to look at and clone out when you offer this as a print. 9

Very creative. How did you do this? Lighting is great, and I like the touch with the both Kings "fighting" on the ground. Pretty cool.

09/21/2004 10:47:26 PM
Interesting approach. How many times did you need to hit the board to get them composed like that? The contrast between the natural browns and green against the black background is very attractive. Really like the image. Good luck with the challenge.

One of my favorites. If the hand had not been in the picture and the black on the top right would have been more uniform, I would have given it a 10.

The lighting on each piece betrays the fact that this is a composited photo. This isn't stopped motion. This is a creation in Photoshop. Additionally, the composition is extremely weak.

Love the idea, execution and the control of lighting. Not sure about the choice of pieces you have used, like 2 kings and the rest still flying out of the board. Still, a great shot and you deserve a 10.
