I was shooting on Bates Island between Ottawa and Gatineau when out of nowhere appeared a bunch of actors in costume. I found the cameraman and got the lowdown on the production they were shooting, and offered to shoot stills (which would also give me a challenge entry in the process!) The director, Felix, gave me the OK and I was able to hang a bit with the actors and get some great shots. They are all volunteers with access to masses of costumes and props and shoot videos and stage productions on the history of the Quebecois in the Ottawa Valley.

This particular episode covered the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's early visits to this area.

So, for the next 4 hours or so I lurked nearby, careful to stay out of camera range. Shot a ton of images.

Three of those background faces against the sky - the two boys at the top and the lower-left shot, which some may recognize as my Aboriginal entry for a portrait challenge this past fall - are mine.
