My November Guest

My Sorrow, when she's here with me,
Thinks these dark days of autumn rain
Are beautiful as days can be;
She loves the bare, the withered tree;
She walks the sodden pasture lane.

Her pleasure will not let me stay.
She talks and I am fain to list:
She's glad the birds are gone away,
She's glad her simple worsted grey
Is silver now with clinging mist.

The desolate, deserted trees,
The faded earth, the heavy sky,
The beauties she so truly sees,
She thinks I have no eye for these,
And vexes me for reason why.

Not yesterday I learned to know
The love of bare November days
Before the coming of the snow,
But it were vain to tell her so,
And they are better for her praise.

For the record: this year, spring hasn't arrived on Cape Cod yet; some of the trees are JUST beginning to show buds, there are a few daffodils, that's it. Everything else looks like dead of winter. So I went out in the rain and did an Autumn shot :-) Looks JUST like November around here.

The perspective on this shot makes it very interesting - It's difficult to judge how far away the stream is as there are no objects to compare against, but this adds to the surreal quality. Nice one!

Oh my, this is most lovely! The texture and details in the rocks and grass is quite awesome. You've applied HDR to good effect here, without crossing the line which is easy to do on nature shots. Also, the yellow tones just scream Autumn. Top image of the challenge so far.

Love the golden hues of the autumn grasses. This capture has a lot of great details for the eye to drink in from the textures of the rocks in the foreground to the bending stalks of grass. I like the leading line of the creek that curves and bends then goes off to the horizon.
