The Melting Point of Gold. This is a Gold pour at one of South Africa's oldest gold mines, now a tourist attraction, resort and casino, called Gold Reef City.
On the day Gold was selling for:
Price Per Fine Oz: $ 1473.90
Price Per Gold Bar: $ 518,813.00
Weight of Gold Bar at 98% purity before refining: 352 Oz

1 Tonne of rock is removed from the ore bearing earth 4+ km's underground that currently yields produces 4 grams (0.141096 Oz) of Gold. Yields on the Witwatersrand Reef are getting less and less. The average Gold Bar refined at the worlds largest Refinery, Rand Refinery in Johannesburg weighs 12400 grams or 438.9 ounces. That's 3100 Tonnes of earth moved to create a 12.4 Kg gold bar.

Shot in the dark hand held. The D80 is pretty grainy/noisy at ISO 800. I merely emphasised it by increasing the EV in PS.

ETA: I am rather disappointed in a 4.9x and the lack of any in-voting comments especially supporting/justifying those sub 5.5 votes. There's grain, lots of colour noise and a seldom seen unusual image shot in difficult PJ style conditions. It's not ribbon material for sure but 4.9?

I haven't had time to vote on this challenge and is such a pity. I cannot understand why this did not do better. I am no boffin but I love the colours and the grain.
