Isaac's hand, feather, Legos in the BG; diffuse sunlight through a window; macro mode, handheld; auto-focus and auto-exposure.

Tone curve, grayscale, crop, USM applied twice with settings of 88%/.08dia/TH=5; JPEG=10/10.

Shallow DOF helps obscure distracting BG, also partly why I went grayscale -- the color blocks were a bit TOO distracting, although a nice contrast with the other flat planes of color. There was also some color fringing in the shadowed area on the right.

With the good focus on the skin I hope people interpret the blurriness of the feather to be motion blur, and not just OOF or camera shake.

I think this would work better with a plain bg

Seeing the texture of the feather, or having some of the "threads" of the feather separated would help I think. As it is the feather seems rather flat and doesn't add "ticklish" to the photo.

You should have worked on the focus better.

This might have been better if there were nothing in the back ground, maybe just white back ground?
