Well I have been too busy in september to shoot anything for any challenge But I decided to find one picture I took in september and I think this one is one of the better pics I took in september,
I kinda like the darkness in it and the sun shining on the grass behind her.
I know its not perfect though, but what a hell
Brown ribbon in this challenge is not sooo bad ...

It´s from a model shoot I took with this girl her name is Aþena and is only 14 years old.
I used profoto strobe lights I borrowed from a friend.
Editing: levels, brightness - contrast, desaturate the colors, dodge the hair burn the shoulder and forehead, cloned out some spots in her face, cloned out some bright spots in the background, NeatImage and sharpen

Oh pretty tones!~ I like the wisp of hair against the side and clinging to her lip gloss. The overall mood is mysterious and I like the darkness of it. Great DOF as well!

This is gorgeous! It amazing me that it has such a high score yet didn't get a top 3 ribbon!

If you ever are in Atlanta, maybe you can test with my daughter. Feel free to check out her web site at www.kristinroberts.info She is with Elite.

I love(d) the hair over the eye and the black pupils. It's apart of what makes this shot so different and well -great- as opposed to just a head shot.

sensual on many levels from the expression, the mouth, the subdued lighting. Left side rule of thirds works here because of the strength of the main subject. Bumping one up. Congratulations.

What a beautiful woman! Just her right arm - it's blurred a bit. Maybe it would've been better to crop it (than the right side needs cropping too).

very nice. i think i can see a hint of colour in there...or maybe i'm imagining it. nice effect, though the pic overall is a little dark for a portrait in my mind. her face blends into the backdrop a little too much i think. a little creative dodging would make this a masterpiece. nice submission...I like it.

A beautiful model - well portrayed. There is an air of mystery in this image - which bring emotion. The one eye is so captivating - and the hair over the other adds some playfullness. The white blob in the lower right is an attention grabber. Border on the heavy side.

Excellent duotone. Very nice gradations throughout especially on her face. A few bright spots on her lips but not distracting. Her eyes are also very captivating and lend to the seriousness of her look and gaze. I also like how her hair is in front of her face hinting that it was blown by wind or whatnot. 9

Just beautiful. The soft light emphasises her very even skin. The hair across her face and her expression are great. I see some very subtle toning. Her lips are slightly purple, the highlights on the right seem to have a different tone than the women, very subtle. I wonder how it looks without the color on the lips and with a very tight crop, making it a portrait format.

How beautiful! The look, the graytones, the crop. So well done, the only thing I would like to see is just a bit higher crop on her head, bring the whole hairline in. The use of negative space is wonderful. I can't really fault the cropping because the overall shot is so well done. A 10

Great portrait. Hopefullly your details section contains conditions and post processing steps. The only thing I am not sure of is the hair. Seems like one group of strands might be enough, but that is a small comment. But, my guess is that this places well.

wow lovely photo! i love the texture and hue on the subject... though would like to see the right half from her removed... and no not the right side of the woman but whats to the right of her... that being the very light patch ... i feel it draws too much attention away from the subject and IMHO would like to see her as the main subject without the light areas to the right.... however everything about the woman i love and wouldnt change a thing

A very nice shot here I like the dark brooding color and her slightly off pose.
She is very well lit too.

What I don't like is the lack of detail on her face - almost looks like she is just about to start melting. not sure if this is makeup neat image or lighting but it looks very tonal and soft/

Wonderful model, lovely big eyes. The face seems a bit too Photoshopped though... the shadows around the face look as though too much dodging and burning has been carried out. Everything looks a bit too NeatImaged as well. The background to the right is a bit distracting... I think it would have worked better without the white patch. Great makeup and hair. The glossy lips are very effective. Black and white works well here. 8

I'm sure you're getting comments on the hair coming down over the eye. I kind of like it. Your crop has too much background for me, and the upper torso area is a bit too dark. The dodging or (if it wasn't dodged), the lighting on the cheek at the viewer's left is a little strong too. This does do a great job of capturing a sombre mood though, which I like. 8

What a lovely portrait. The face is wonderful. I can't decide if the hair on the face is interesting or distracting. The very light spot in the backgroud jumps out and distracts your attention from the subject. I think this would have been even better with a plain black background IMHO. 9.

10/01/2004 10:49:37 PM
returning for comments.

This is a wonderful tone study with one minor flaw. Dark eyes, and these are beautiful, will be sought by the viewer. The hair across the pupil interferes with their shape because hair, eyebrows and shadows are in the same zone. It also steals the catchlight which low key images need.

Yet, this is a very appealing and almost mystical study with great tonal vitality and superbly captured essence. The lips are a delight with immaculate highlights and the hair is just flowing and framing the lovely and pensive face. Bumping up.

This is beautiful! The expression on the girl's face really conveys the mood I think you were trying to convey in the picture. I gave it an 8, only because I think it's a little too dark. A little more light, and it would have been a perfect 10.

Very nice focus and clarity. I love the crispness. I wish she didn't look so sad. I think her eyes are competing with the tree bright dots to the right of her face. In other words, i find the dots to be a distraction from her face. They are so close to her face, and similar to size and color to her eyes, that my eyes are drawn over to the dots as well as her eyes. Still a very lovely photo and beautiful girl as well. ~Heather~

A nice lowkey image with subtle lighting. I like the way the hair falls onto her face. I like your choice of cropping - taking off the top of her head brings us closer and creates a feeling of intimacy. I also like the non-centred composition. I'm not sure I like the way in which her hair merges into the background. 7 (

Textures and composition are lovely. My only critcism is the whites of the eyes are unaturally whitened to the point of distraction to the viewer....9

I find the way her hair is over the catchlight in [her] right eye is a bit distracting, and it makes her look evil, with no detail in the eye at all. I do like the desaturation and the background though. 7

very nicely done ... you've brought out the eyes nicely and her glossy lips stand out as well ... i don't always like hair covering the eyes, but it works nicely here ... great job

Very nice image. For some reason, I think because of tan-lines, her body looks twisted sometimes. I really like this image but there's something about it that's making the body and head unrelated.

Exquisite. One tiny thing bothers me, and that is that the left eye (as we are looking at it) is blacked out and the blur of the lower left portion of her shoulder. But this is nit-picking over a masterful piece.

Beautiful, the hair across the eye is a bit distracting for me, the lighting looks great, good job...8

Perfect tones, engaging expression, natural pose. This is just marvelous. The glossy lips get a little too much attention, perhaps, but this is a marvelous shot. 10
