This is the highest ranking image on this site...
Without a ribbon. Quite the tough challenge but only 69 submissions.
This was so well executed I can't say anymore. But I will. The time you put into this really shows. Great capture.

I used two flashes. One from above the aquarium with a softbox, and one from the side. I also had a mirror at the bottom of the aquarium, so the light would reflect upwards.

fascinating image, one of my top picks. The lighting is very nice, the DOF colors work well with the subject and its great color and texture. Don't know that I fully understand it but I do know that I like it.

Love the shot, but obvious harsh blurring tools look like they were used around the edge of the kiwi, as well as a silver dollar sized blur in the upper right hand coner, great shot though.

"How the heck did they do that"? It’s a corker: but is it of, by and for a Kiwi?… Or just inspirational homage? Time will tell… In any event, I’m going to have to learn the tricks of this trade! It also reminded me of ‘Bikini Island’.

It is very sad that even in the master's challenge, the overall technique of many members is so wanting that they question an effect to contradict with validation what their comprehension denies them. Do these members really believe that an entrant would risk their reputation to suffer a DQ? Please, look at more pictures daily and at least extend the courtesy of the doubt.

This image has a very strong visaul impact, but its greatmess is not rooted in art but a deftly and lethal technique whose output creates a sci-fi effect. great.

this is a wild shot. can't wait to find out how you did it. can't say if the blue in the back takes away from the overall cohesiveness of the image or not.

I might have called this "Kiwi Cloud" or "Atomic Kiwi" or perhaps "the K Bomb". Very nicely done, although I wonder why it was necesary to blur the background. The highlights are so vivid that I'd think that green would be neutral enough without extra attention.

Certainly a different angle to look at. I like it though, captured it really well with a nice fast shutter speed. Brilliant lighting, really lets us see ebery part of the kiwi fruit. Only distracting bit is the blue part in the background on the bottom LHS. 8

What seems like fake DOF is awful here, as is the over saturation. I have never seen a yellow kiwi like that with a angel like halo around it?

On the plus side though I think you have done very well to captue the water and this moment.

I would have called it a Kiwi Jellyfish! That is what it reminds me of. I love the color, the look, the wonderful clarity of the overall shot. There is a touch of over brightness on the right side in the water but it doesn't really hurt the overall shot. A 10

I gave you a 10, but I would have liked it better had you turned it right-side-up. I felt that way and finally decided to download the shot and rotate it in PS. I definitely like it better that way, but because the clarity and colors are so fab, I can't give you any less than the 10.

My, what details on the kiwi! This is a superb shot... love the shadows and details of the water. Only suggestion would be to do something about that slice of blue in the background... I love the golden haze of the kiwi skin. the lighting is excellent! ... very nice! Thanks!

10/03/2004 02:55:08 PM
Very cool!! I can't tell which way the water is flowing. Got a little glow from the blurring of the background, but its not that noticeable and makes the kiwi pop out. 8
  Photographer found comment helpful.
10/03/2004 12:43:59 PM
The details and colors are just beautiful. What I don't understand is why you have turned it upside down and also chose to include the blue part. If you crop that away you still have a gorgeous image.

Superb idea, a bit oversharpened and the manipulation of the BG shows quite a lot. I don't like the blue in the BG on the left side. Still very nice 6

10/03/2004 08:19:36 AM
Good diving! :) First i wanted to protest why that kiwi is yellow but now i see that light gives amazing golden looks in the water. Pitty about blue spot in in background.

10/03/2004 07:39:31 AM
This looks more like a lifting up out of the water than a splash downward, but still an awesome picture. Really like the contrast in the water and the golden color (albeit a bit unnatural looking) of the kiwi. Good choice of blurred green background, although the blue in the lower left looks a bit out of place. Well done. 8

10/03/2004 06:44:21 AM
Wow... stopped motion water shots are always a good bet. Initially looks nice and sharp, but on closer inspection looks oversharpened... I suspect because the dof may not have been deep enough. Great assortment of colours. Looks a little like too much time was spent in PS tinkering... beyond the point of no return! A beautiful image though. 8

Just plain stunning. Really like the air bubbles on the kiwi itself and in the splash. Background blur is just a hair too visible. You can see it along the right edge of the kiwi and splash..

Other than that it's great. Love the colours!

Beautiful, interesting, flawless. Colors are wonderful. composition is great. I have no idea how you did it. Ttruely a masters shot. The only thing missing for me is the desire to hang it on my wall - purely personal preference and nothing to do with the shot. Maybe if someone had a bar in their home with these vibrant colors . . . maybe a kitchen? 10.

This is visually interesting to me but I'm not really sure what I am observing. Is the kiwi sitting on an ice pedestal? The top of the kiwi looks very feathered as if hasty masking was done in Photoshop. An interesting image.

I've tried to figure out how you got this, but I give up. I'm kind of thinking you dropped one object, followed by the kiwi. However you got this shot, it is pretty amazing. The only thing that bothers me is the small section of blue at the bottom left. I would have changed its hue to match the background green. This is still my highest rated shot in the challenge. Good luck!

Wow. The lighting here is great (from the top, judging from the reflection toward the right), and the detail on the kiwi fuzz is spot-on. The shape of the water seems so unnatural, but the dynamic motion of the shot, coupled with the internal reflections of the kiwi's innards throughout the water adds a "splash" of color that balances everything perfectly. The blue area toward the lower left seems a bit incongruous.

Great shot. Apparently it is upside-down. I think I would like it better right side up. Great sharpness and color although I wonder about the spot of blue on the leftside.

the only thing that really dissapoints me here is the blurred haris of the kiwi on the top part. that would take a minute to fix, and make the image perfect. im a big fan of mushroom art, so this is going into my favorites. great idea and capture!

Looks like a bit of an unatural halo on the kiwi, but perhaps it's backlighting. Either way this is extremely creative, and was no doubt tricky to get "just right". Great job!

This is one of the coolest shots in the challenge. Did you flip the picture upside down? Cool colors and lighting (10).

Nice warmth to the lighting and lovely reflections on the water. That blue bit on the left is a little odd - would prefer green (or blue) background throughout. Very strange. Quite funky! 7 (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=129433)

Great stop action shot marred by that halo from masking and/or oversharpening. 6

neat idea inverting the pic like that...though i'd have preferred it if you leveled the water rather than the kiwi i think. it's very crisply focussed , which i like, but methinks it's maybe a little oversharpened as all your highlights have that "USM glow" to them. Of course, that may simply be your lighting too...can't really tell.
nonetheless, a great shot.

It's certainly hard to pick a winner with the quality entries of this particular challenge... but I think you may have done it here! For now, this is my only 10 of the challenge. Very impressive work!

This is really nice, clear, and sharp, but it does show some signs of bad editing, specially the glow around the kiwi, which is a shame because it spoils the photo for me. 6

This looks like some sort of crystalline mushroom. Very beautiful :)

Fantastic capture! The only thing that bothers me a bit about this image is that there appears to be no support for the kiwi or the splash, gives it a 'floating' appearance but a bit too much for my taste. I'm very curious how you did this, I'm guessing it was taken upside down, but then I still don't know how you managed such a beautiful splash.

How did you achieve this! Such a great picture. Good texture on the kiwi. I find the blue a bit distracting. But this should be in the top ten!

this is a really cool shot, with very interesting lighting, and large wow factor, as well as a how did they do it factor. The blur above the kiwi is a bit distracting though... looks like a poorly cloned out something holding up the kiwi. I know how hard it is to cone out things right against things.. and it might be just the blurry background that makes it look like this. otherwise, great shot.

I can't imagine what this is but it looks great. Why the green background? Something must contrast better with the yellow whatever it is...

Dropped into water eh? The colors are wonderful and a great idea to present it upside down. One of the best in this challenge.

Fantastic! I take it you inverted this? What a great idea, and so wonderfully captured. Like a toadstool in a fantasy land.

I wish this one were right-side up instead of upside down. Beautiful crystal water captured, and phenomenal texture on the kiwi.

Beautiful picture but way too processed to qualify as a photo. Digital art it is, photo it is not...
