So I had two options, this was the other one. I actually thought this one might do a little better:

But there was a charm to the entry (I thought), that I just really fell in love with. I really wish the ship was a bit closer, it split the eye too much, but I still liked it's quirkiness.

I'm sure the people on the beach were laughing at me the whole time. I saw the ship on the horizon, that's what I was there for. I remembered that I had seen it in Yorktown before, and my husband and I drove the 20-30 or so minutes to see if we could see it.

The seagull was sitting on the piling on the beach, and I ran down when the ship was to the left of the piling, crouched down to position it correctly and waited for the seagull to turn it's head.

It kept looking in the wrong direction!!

Moved a couple of feet the other way, so the ship was on the other side, and of course, the seagull now was looking straight ahead.

argh.

Waited.

Looking back the other direction!

Moved back again!

Got a shot, a quick one that I wasn't sure was focused right.

Meanwhile, the ship was moving at a pretty good clip, and kept moving farther away from the seagull, so I kept having to take more and more steps sideways. I only ended up getting two shots with the seagull actually looking at the ship. One with the head to the left, and one to the right.

I'd say huge thanks to the seagull for all his help -- but I do think he was just having fun making me hop around in the sand! So I'll say huge thanks to my wonderful husband for keeping me company on the drive out, and walking hand in hand along the beach later on.

And thanks for all the wonderful comments!! 11 comments during a challenge is huge, and so very appreciated. :)

You, of all people, should by now know that the one with the bird in it is the one that will do better :-) Congrats!

This bird photo much better than the single ship because the ship didn't have enough space for the forward movement. All your space was at the back of the ship. The bird one has much more interest too. I loved it!

Beautiful and my fav; the grain works really well. The tones, composition and perfect dof completes it.

This is a terrific comp. I love how the shore bird watches the ship off in the distance. The grain adds feeling here and doesn't feel forced.

Border's a touch heavy IMO, but an otherwise really nice image.
