Challenge: Classic Novels (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon
Location: The semi fireproof driveway.
Date: Oct 14, 2013
Aperture: 9.0
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Oct 15, 2013

I mounted a lousy anthology of poetry by screwing the cover to a T of wood, so I could light the book without having obvious supports. Lit with a work light on the upper left and a clamp lamp lower right.
I took another later with a faster shutter speed to freeze the fire which I liked better but the pages were too charred by then to get words between the flames.
Addendum: For those who hated the idea of a book really being burned: This one needed to be. I always try to sell our used books to allow others to enjoy them, then I donate to whoever might want them. This horrid poetry anthology was not accepted by anyone who might have wanted it. It needed to be pulped or burnt. Whoever put it together should be banned from ever using paper again.

Hey, I wrote those poems!! :P
Congrats on the top ten! Wish I'd have voted, would've given 7 points just for the flames.

This is almost pornographic :-) It certainly meets the challenge, for all that it breaks my heart.

7 from me.

Well, it is a book burning in all its horror. I hope Bradbury doesn't inspire too much of this. 4

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)

A six for you. Bold storytelling, quite an impact. But it's nothing I necessarily want to try at home.

OVerall the image is ok. The composition could have been changed up to show the tips of the flames. I think this would have made it a stronger image. Or maybe just a piece of the book showing with the flanes.

great representation, hopefully it was not a 'good' book that was burned

Extremely well done. Has to be right up there when it's all counted. (Not voting)

Comment Challenge: Fire is very difficult to capture well, and this image does a good job of it. I like that there is a bit of text that is still legible. The burned portions seem a bit unrealistic.

4...Ha! Two of you had the same idea. It seems a bit over-saturated, particularly in the flames.

Excellent. Obviously evokes the novel very strongly.

Well shot too, and while I'm tempted to nit-pick the over-sharp flames, this is so good that I can't bring myself to do so.

Good take on the challenge. The contrast works well and I especially like the crinkled, burnt paper/ashes, the glow and the textures. A 7 from me

It's all in the timing, bet the mechanical hounds have been at this one ;) 5

I like the framing of the book and the fire, but man I hate seeing books burn! I hope it wasn't the Bradbury! Totally out of your control, but would have liked the flames a little more isolated from one another. Cutting the tops off the flames off doesn't help them feel less cluttered. I do like that the ash remains, and the little piece of story trying to show though the destruction. 6

Gosh, aside from hoping no books were "really" burned in the process, this is excellent. Both the interpretation and the execution. Picture perfect.

Dramatic shot - possible cover art. 7

The concept is obvious and done to death. I do like the odd composition, though... rather oppressive like the book. 5

Shows preparation and commitment :). A single book looks a bit odd related to the novel, more like a single incident. The fire is well photographed. To me looks a bit too staged. 6

The processing is a little too much, IMO.
Also, I don't like the straight-on angle you've chosen for this.

Great idea for the book! Very nicely captured! Love the flames and charred pages!

You achieved here the temperature of autoignition point for paper!
Somehow the over sharpening makes sense here, even the unusual pink hue

I never thought a burning book could be so beautiful. I feel a bit guilty. Well done, nonetheless.
