This is a chapel in East Burke, Vermont, high up on Darling Hill. Absolutely gorgeous location.

Congratulations.

Congrats on your high mark Damian. Certainly an emotional and thoughtful image with much loved DPC drama... Had I voted (Team Mate image) I'd easily have hit the 7 mark. An 8 if classic B&W rather than the purple/pink taint. A 4? Bah!

a strange tale, and here is a strange scene beautifully and strangely rendered.

Quite a cool shot. I think you need to come back during night and use a flash to get a shadow of the statue on the front face of the building.

In looking at this a second time around -- I'm not sure about the magentas and reds in the processing. I'm thinking I'd like a plain B&W or perhaps a blue cast a bit better. It's looking a little too pink today.

Wonderful, moody image.

Wonderful! Love the light and the tones. The light play with shadows is exceptional, as well as the dof. Bump

I am thinking that this would look even better at hi res, much bigger. I will say, this black and white processing helps increase the drama.

Lovely contrast in lights and shadows, nice composition as well!

6...a nice rich B&W conversion. For me the vignette is maybe a bit strong as it encroaches around the edges and seems unnecessary. But the light-the light is so beautiful.

I like the dramatic sky and the framing of the shot.
the purple cast is both fun since it's rarely seen, and at the same time causing my brain to exclaim that this isn't right.
i'm going to ignore that part of my brain since the cast is artistic and not literal and give you an 8

Very spectacular. Great choice of contrast. I might guess this to be Alessandro's work. And if it's not him, consider it a compliment :-)

Oh, this is splendid for that book!

I truly understand the use of HDR sometimes because it gives this surreal look, the hyperrealism that might be suited here to the book.
I did not read the novel but I know that on top of religion and faith that you obviously show, it's about war and friendship and fate.
I appreciate parts of this shot, mostly the ground with the beautifully radiant shadows, but the whole is not too inspiring and the image seems forced.

Fits the novel well enough, since faith and the church was a big part of that one.

I like the image's composition, and the subject.

The building's facade is nearly perfect, but the rest of the image seems to be over-sharp, and the shadow area of the building seems really soft. Quite strange overall.

Add to that the selenium coloration, and hard clouds, and we start heading down a rather dark path.

I'm giving this a 6 for meeting the challenge well, and having a good composition.

A powerful and beautiful image. The lighting is wonderful and processing is great. Though there seams to be some haloing around the back of the building, I quite like the processing. 7

John Wheelwright couldn't have asked for a better interpretation. An odd feeling of detachment and solitude, maybe abstractness as in the theological philosophical style. Good toning and clarity help the connection between image and novel.7.

A stark mood, that seems appropriate for the story. Black and white, right and wrong. The religious statue and church like building are pluses. Not sure I'm ready to call it a classic, but I didn't mark it down for that. 7

good image, the mix of processing styles is a bit offputting.
10/18/2013 04:13:05 PM
Haven't read the book but my kids did. From what I read in synopsis, this passes as sympathetic with the novel, and at the purely artictic and technical levels, the image is very well done. The statue could be in the mind of Owen Meany presenting himself as Christ-like. 7

An interesting, alternative take on the book. I haven't read it, but this portrayal has definitely sparked an interest. The dramatic clouds and usage of light make it well worthwhile to look at this in detail. A 6 from me

Great work

I like the composition of the photo. The lighting is great and the clouds look cool.

Gave it an 8

Love the dark and ominous feel.

Not crazy about the slight touch of purple combined with pure whites in other areas. It's not pleasing to my eye. The architecture is interesting, but the puffed up processing is too melodramatic for my taste. 4

Nice darkening of the sky, great subject
10/16/2013 06:53:22 PM
Nice infrared image. The purple/pink tones and black inky sky are lovely! Beautiful lighting too!
10/16/2013 03:10:37 PM
A striking image of remarkably intense clarity, presumably infrared though, if so, a nicely muted infrared. Technically it's excellent. I wonder if you need all the space on the left, but it's a nit. As far as fitting the book, it does so very well. Good job capturing the intensity of the religious theme that ties the book together.

8 from me, with the possibility of moving up at voting's end.

Beautiful photograph!
Love the color and the detail.

Very well executed. Gave it an 8

I like the image with its ott processing but I have my doubts about connection to title.7.
