My wife has a small netsuke she received as a gift from a close friend. I tried photographing it from several angles and straight on but it was boring. So I placed it in a metal candle holder with some interesting curved lines to frame it. I think the curved metal does a nice job managing the movement of your eye and frames the subject nicely. the contrast shows off the subject nicely.

What do you think dear voter?

Well, that's weird. Somehow I had commented "=" at some point while looking through the challenge entries. I certainly can't leave it like that, so how about a real comment to replace my error?

I quite like your lighting here. It's enough to illuminate the subject, but just enough to kiss the contours of circular thingy. I'm not a big fan of photographing knickknack type things for challenges, but this is one of the better executions that I've seen. I don't know how "ancient" this feels, but that little carving certainly is neat.

I think what makes this photo is the perspective and lighting. You were successful in taking a simple subject matter and making it a creative photo. Nice work!
