Very unexpected, to say the least...

---

Yeah! I'm so happy for this unexpected win!

Now I don't have the exact camera settings but I'll had them later (now I am away). Most of the shots I've done were at 6400 ISO and 2.8, exposure around 6-7 seconds.

---

I took this shot the Christmas eve, before dinner. I was at my wife's family place in the mountains. Taking the photos has been rather difficult. There was full moon. So I began thinking how I could take a shot of the stars. I had to find out if after sunset (and after blue hour) and before dinner - no more than two hours - there was no moon in the sky. I was lucky - no moon. But I never took a shot with stars there and I wasn't even sure I could considering the light pollution - at the foot of the mountain there's a village.

So I went there (30 minutes drive) before sunset to understand the better position for my camera.

Then I came back to the town centre to visit a friend of mine who has a book store. I had to wait for the night a do a couple of things for my wife. I bought two books for my little son and when I was about to leave we realized that a woman took my books and I lost a lot of time trying to understand what I should do.

So the available time was very short.

I reached the place and I realized that the light pollution was rather strong. But I was able to capture a lot of stars.

Another problem was that I was away and I didn't have the access to a computer with the last version of Photoshop. So I couldn't open my raw file. So after many many tries I ended up using an old version of the program and this thing has not improved the final version.

But anyways it worked out pretty well :)

bump. I would love to be standing where you were. Camera by my side. Beautiful crisp night. Stars as far as the eye can see. Well done in this image. I'm anxious to see your settings.

Absolutely beautiful. Makes me feel incredibly insignificant in the whole scheme of things.

Have you ever listened to the song "Stars" by Grace Potter? Check it out. This is the perfect illustration. Lovely and simple. Nature at its best. :)

Just a bit of light on the mountain side opens it up nicely.
