Congratulations on your 4000th comment!

I've always loved the backlighting on this shot, and how you were able to get such great details in the shadow. Something I've always strived for and never really been able to accomplish.

Anyway, now you have 4000 comments and you can go gloat :)

Thanks Richard,

I used my 70-200 f/2.8 VR with a 2x teleconverter. Mother nature provided the backlight, I used my sb800 speedlight at probably -0.3 for fill flash. I actually wasn't thrilled with this shot when I took it, but with my 2 hour visit to the zoo that morning, it was the best I had. I do tend to warm my shots either in camera with my white balance setting, or in Nikon Capture Editor or PS CS. I got use to the warmth of my fuji 602, and have continued the feel with my Nikons.

Outstanding shot, everything works well together here, the color in the blurred backround, the backlight and the use of fill-in flash (?). Maybe a centered version would have been even better as its body faces a bit out of the frame to the right and its face out of the frame to the left. Congrats on the ribbon, great collection you have.

Great backlighting, catchlight in the eyes and detail all around. You've even caught the dirt on the paws and nose. My only suggestion would be to try and tone down the highlights on the right as some of them seem to be a bit blown. 9

WON-DER-FUL!! The backlighting makes all the difference in this shot really giving it that "something unexpected" that makes it stand out. There is still enough lighting on the body to be able to make out the details, and the catch-lights in the eyes really help define the face. A terrific shot, and one of my few 10's.

This is so wonderful. you captured just enough light in the front to get wonderful detail, like that cute face and the dirt on his paws and the glow from behind is just awesome. Wonderful shot.

Great shot with excellent backlighting. It's amazing you were able to get so much light on the subject with that much light behind it as well. The dirt on the paws and nose is a nice touch as well since it shows what the animal was doing. Really nice job.

Absolutely stunning backlight - and yet still a glint in the eye. Did you use flash or was there some ambient light or did you need to dodge a little on the eyes to bring that out? Whichever it is the result is superb. Very intimate portrait of one of my favourite critters.
