Coot (or mudhen) at Lake Temescal Regional Recreation area. I had a couple of closer shots, but this was the best one -- in a nod to the hyperliteralist voters -- which showed the bird in it's "natural environment" among the reeds growing in the soft mud near the shoreline.

Cropped, basic RGB tone curve adjustment. Tiny bit of retouching of a reflection near the tip of the beak. Second tone curve to bring out detail in the eye and back feathers. Two applications of USM at 66%/0.6 dia/TH=5. JPEG=8/10.

Interesting subject. The composition could have been a little more interesting if the subject were off center a bit.

Over exposed nose, and lack of contrast brings this done a bit. Don't be afraid to use more contrast in your images. Choice of subject is good. Good luck
