Red-tailed hawk eating the remains of a Canadian goose - a small snapping turtle seems to have been the appetizer.

note added: background was not made larger - i think it's a trompe l'oeil due to the lighting and dof

I liked the geese in the background -- it was like a "life goes on moment" and makes so much more of a story.

The carnage makes this shot. Well done.

I would've thought a goose was too big for a hawk. Apparently, I would have been wrong. Great (if vaguely gory) capture, especially with the OOF geese seemingly unconcerned back there.

Interesting photo but not sure the geese add to the scene in fact to me they are a bit of a distraction to the subject. I love the way the hawk is sitting on a meal but still looking for more...

Great wildlife capture! How did you get the background larger?

Is that a turtle? I'm guessing the other dead thing is a large bird of some kind, but a turtle? I like how the ducks beyond are completely unruffled by it all.

Youch! Looks like the prey is larger than the victor? Well captured- like the ducks in a row background.

Has a strange element, sort of real and unreal.
