We have been very fortunate to have a beach/dune/marsh area within 8 or so miles that has been frequented by at least one snowy owl since early January. Since the local paper ran an article with photographs taken at this location you can tell where they are by looking for the cluster of parked cars.

This owl spent time on the ground and also on available structures like this empty osprey nest. His/her eyes were closed, or nearly closed, most of the time. This was the most open I saw them.

I don't do much bird photography in the wild, but this was such an unusual opportunity, and these birds are magnificent, so I made an exception!

Thank you for the votes and great comments. Much appreciated.

Great shot. 9 (If sparrows are flying mice, as my husband claims, then owls are flying cats.)

How lucky you are to have seen this beautiful snowy owl. It's handsomely presented, seemingly on a throne, disappearing into the weather.

A stunningly beautiful shot. I have an appreciation of just how difficult it is to photograph birds in the wild and must commend you on this shining example of great wildlife photography. Very well done indeed and I do hope it fares well in the challenge.
