 This is our dog Andy. He's a Saluki mixed breed. We got him from K9 Friends in Dubai when he was 9 weeks old in 2009. He was one of a litter of 8 puppies--when I went to the cages to see the pups, there were 7 pups yelping and begging for attention, and one pup huddled in the corner in fear. For reasons I still don't understand, I opened the gate and grabbed the scared pup. He seemed to be the most in need of rescue.

Andy has been a wonderful dog for us, but it is so sad that he constantly lives in fear. We don't know what (if anything) happened to him before we adopted him, but he is terrified of any changes in his environment. We live on the 11th floor of a big apartment building, and it's a common event for him to pee in the elevator before he can get outside because he's just so scared. I had a great idea for a studio lighting shot in the apartment, but the strobes freaked him out and he just looked really scared and uncomfortable in every shot.

This shot I got a few days before (I'm constantly taking pictures of our dogs, and I didn't even know a dog challenge was going on) and the light coming through our windows was perfect. Andy had a really intense look as he focused on me while I was clicking away. For such a timid little guy, he really is photogenic... I'm glad there's a dog challenge so we can show our little guy off :)
