Challenge: Watches, Clocks, & Other Timepieces (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: 2014
Camera: Canon EOS-400D Rebel XTi
Lens: Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
Location: Waxahachie, Texas
Date: Apr 16, 2014
Aperture: 7.1
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/200
Date Uploaded: Apr 17, 2014

Taking advantage of a job that has me ending the workday in different places. Ended up in Waxahachie the other day, which is one of my favorite towns on the outskirts of the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex (the location of the WWII reenactment I photograph every veterans day). So I did an evening walkabout and got some dinner rather than dealing with rush hour. This is the Ellis County courthouse.

Shot with the $75 Rebel XTi that I bought from another member, and an 18-55 kit lens. Having an inexpensive DSLR that I keep in the truck all the time has been nice.

Pretty happy with how this turned out, but I expect it will get slammed by some folks who may feel the clock on the building is not prominent enough for the topic.

Great shot Spiffy. I love the composition and the old architecture.

Is my Rebel XTi really only worth $75?

I'm not usually in to sepia toning of images, but it works perfectly with this one.

Not that 8th place isn't wonderful... but this was one of my favorites I was hoping would win. It's a really great photo. Congratulations!

The building looks regal and imposing. My favorite part though is the way the composition makes the clock faces look like eyes and the balcony (?) look like a mouth. I could see this building standing up and chasing after me (yes, I have had too much coffee today). My favorite in this challenge.

A very imposing clock tower and you have chosen a great angle to shoot it from.

Interesting but there is so much going on in this take the clocks kind of get lost. But very interesting.

Yes! A clock in the context of a story to create artistry around it. My favorite so far!

A magical and whimsical piece of architecture that revels in its symmetry. The sepia coloration is attractive. The portrayal of clouds behind the tower is excellent. Shift your focus and the central area morphs into a strange face, like an automaton. Appealing, interesting and satisfying.

nice PP - suits the subject nicely, and I really like the near-symmetry
