Critique Club critique:

Composition/Content: Very creative and elegant image. The flower stamen is framed beautifully. The soft white on white was a great choice. The positioning and framing of the flower make the shot.
Lighting: The lighting creates depth in the image. Good choice in backlighting.
Camera Work/Technical: Good focus, nice macro, and good depth of field.
Digital Processing: Most people in this crowd like sharp images, but this one is better soft, because all of the parts of the flower are soft and the color and lighting are soft. If you did any processing is was well done because it is not overdone.
My Opinion: Nice treatment of what proved to be a difficult challenge. I like the creativity and execution of the shot. Great job.

Beautiful photograph- I love the idea and the use of a monochromatic color scheme.

A very elegant picture. One of my favorites this week. The focus is a bit soft in places, but the grace of the rest of the picture makes that inconsequential.

Nice white-on-white, and good composition. Seems a little soft (?) but it could be an optical illusion because of low contrast.

beautiful! i would love to see this shot with a different color flower, too...the droplets of milk would be more distinct.

Very interesting composition. I like the gracefullness and failty of the flower. The drops of milk on the petals is essential. I'm not positive that Black and White was the answer here and I really like B & W. I would really liket to see the colors on the stamen of the flower against the petals and milk. Good job.

fantastic clarity and focus... is that total desat or just lots of white stuff? something small in the shot with some nice coloring would be great for some contrast and really make the shot.. oooo I bet a ladybug on the flower would look great!

It took me a minute to figure out what I was looking at, but in a good way. I WANTED to keep looking. This is beautiful.

Glorious study in white! This was a great way to work a flower shot into a milk challenge :P. I can't fault it technically, I think it's beautiful. The composition, especially, is very strong.

I'm not sure I like the white on white. Maybe on chocolate milk would have made the flower stand out more. The focus is a little "soft" for my taste, but still it is very nice. Good job.

Just beautiful. I love the use of macro and b&w here. It certainly meets the challenge. Excellent job.

good choice in the flower used.

Beautiful shot, can't find anything I might improve on, except that the part of the flower in the lower right was a bit more in focus. Love the composition, originality in meeting the challenge, cropping is great, along with use of lighting and overall clarity of a very difficult shot. 10

Pretty!

Beautiful how the subtle tone differences work out.
Very nice composition. The droplets of milk on the flower seem to add something. When I imagine the image without them it seems more empty.
Not a straight line to be seen, very natural, nice.

Nice high-key shot -- excellent idea and composition. First, not a voter -- so you can take these comments for what you will. Have you considered completely desaturating this to B&W, then making your shadows just a tad darker (bringing your shadow level just to the point where the histogram barely shows any shadows), and your midtones just a bit lighter (that one's just a taste thing)? The level settings in PS that I was looking at were 32, 1.5, and 255. Just a suggestion based on my own personal taste. Now going to delete your image from my PS file. ;-) Good luck.

Interesting choice of colour. I think I'd like to see the flower another colour than white. It's still an effective shot with different tones of "white" Jacko. 8

I like this shot. I love the composition, and the light.....I don't like the drops, but that's me. This appeals to me, why....? I'm not 100% sure why. Good job for the challenge.

Excellent shot. I would like to see it in colour but still good enough for a top place in this challenge.
01/20/2003 03:24:08 AM
Nice but I think there needs to be a bit more color.
01/20/2003 01:38:35 AM
