Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Shallow DOF Landscape (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark III
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: New Harbor, Maine
Date: Jun 16, 2014
Aperture: f/22
ISO: 50
Shutter: 10 seconds
Date Uploaded: Jun 19, 2014

This is actually part of a photo that I took for the 10 Second challenge... at f/22! The photo I wanted to use was essentially the same shot Neil entered from a GTG, so I had to find an alternative to avoid the awkward duplicate. I noticed that this 10 second exposure rendered the lighthouse reflection as an extremely smooth blur in the water, so I turned it upside down and took advantage of the sharpness of the surrounding foreground (I didn't blur the background at all). Coincidentally, the rock at Pemaquid just happens to be gneiss, so I lucked out all around.

This is just fantastic! To try to distill its sublime aesthetics into words would, by my hand at least, only do it injustice: indeed, this master work speaks best for itself.

Congrats on the blue. Pemiquid Point has done pretty well on DPC in the last month -- two blue ribbons and another top ten.

I have visited this site a few times. I recognize the POV of Neil's shot, but not yours.

This is fascinating.... it is a lovely shot either way, but I am stunned by the difference that the 180 degree flip makes. I just had to turn it around in Photoshop to see it side by side, and .... wow...... amazing.

Congrats, Shannon. This is such a beautiful capture. I couldn't figure out what I was looking through. Then I read your notes and now I can only see the flip :)

Nice perspective, but I'd love to see a little more of the scene beyond the fissure.
