I cannot believe this got such a low score! Well, okay, I guess it's not THAT low, but surely this deserved at least a 6 something, possibly a 7! The voters just don't like dark photos, I guess. :(

Anyways, the atmosphere this evokes... is stunning. It's so subtle - you've got to look at the picture for a second to see it, but it's there. Everything about this is just awesome!

Wow! This almost looks like one of the old oil paintings, the tone is similar, and the feel/texture. I like it very much.

I find it tragic that brilliant low key photograph such as yours get such a low score, this happens over and over. The quality of this image is tremendous, the tone, the composition of the boat and the shore pointing to the main subject. I also love the shots which I assume are from the same night.

Keep up the good work.

I think this may have been too dark for some monitors which is a great pity because it is a truly wonderful image and should have finished a lot higher than my submission.

It will be interesting to see if this was taken at night or whether it`s a daytime shot that has been post processed to simulate nighttime. Either way, I like it.
The subtle golden tones and excellent composition give it real character.
Hope it`s not too dark for some voter`s monitors.

The quality of this effort is hard to gauge in a monitor. The image has a very nice feel with the monochromatic tone.

Great angle and interesting shot but to dark for me. 7

Far too dark for my tastes. This shot needed a bit more exposure, and some stronger contrast. Also, it looks like it may be a "night for day" shot.. meaning it was taken during the day, but given a dark cast. If that's not the case, my mistake, but to be honest, that's what it looks like to me.

The mood of this photo is absolutely great. The exposure and toning is spot on (on my calibrated monitor at least). You see just enough to get a feeling about what's going on; probably some fishermen leaving the boat (I guess that's the idea) and returning home.

Interesting tonal qualities but perhaps a little too low in contrast

Looks like this one could be interesting if you played with levels to lighten it up. Possibly crop some of the water.

I might've liked to see more sky and less sea, just makes me feel kinda closterphobic, but I'm still giving it an 8. I LOVE the tones of this, very lovely.

My jaw drops when photograpny meets painting, very elegant. One of a few shots without bright lights which is a relief in this challenge. Good composition and viewpoint and the colors are fantastic. Good job on the border. -10

I've looked at this on all 3 computers in my office, and in all cases find this to be VERY dark. I can barely make out any details. It's definitely a night shot, but I was hoping to be able to make out a little more of what your night subject is.

I just recalibrated my monitor, as I do 2-3 times a day depending on the time of day and sun/clouds. So I don't think that's the problem. This is just to dark to make out enough detail to resonate with the photo. It could be your monitor needs recalibration. I also copied your image into PS CS and used levels to adjust it to 0,1,114 across RGB and it works a lot better for me that way. Sorry to seem negative. It's just my opinion.

the one thing that jumps to mind with this is an 'old masters oil painting' feel to it, well done, I love it so much!!!

I like this picture a lot. The colors and composition are some of the best I've seen and the subject is really captivating. Great job.
