When the voting started I was a bit worried because for the first couple of days it stayed below 6. I was mentally writing it off when it suddenly started to climb.

The picture is taken in an industrial renovation area in the centre of my home city of Manchester. Years ago this would have been a no go area but now it's populated by dog walkers, sightseers and restaurant goers (and photographers).

After the black and white processing was done the image reminded me of Sin City. The toning is provided by a 'gradient map overlay', in this case to add a hint of blue to the shadow areas and orange to the light areas.

Thanks for the votes and kind comments and also to Robski for playing the part of the guy being framed.

Fantastic framing of the man caught between the structures of urban life. He is wrapped/cradled/ensnared in the world of metal and stone. Lighting and processing is fantastic - the tones also help make all the details pop off the page. Well done - congrats on the yellow.

I wish I had seen this early enough to have voted on it!! This would have gotten my "10". I love this style of photography. I love how everything seems just a 'little' out of whack while obviously being true! The thing I adore about black and white photography is that it is so much more expressive than color. This is a glorious shot!! I am most envious!!

I love the wide angle perspective and deep mysterious lighting, but the whole right side of this image bothers me. Congrats on the ribbon!

Congrats! Funny as I thought this looked like somewhere in Manchester I recall just off Oxford Street near the Ritz nightclub or somewhere like that - been a few years since I lived in Manchester so it may have been another area near Castlefield near Atlas bar.

I like the moodiness and lighting in this picture. However, I think the subject is a little lost in all the lines, rather than accentuated.
