rented the camera, I love it. I took this in b/w film simulation so I could see it before I took the shot.

I just put some curves on it and cloned out one dot of light in the corner.

Greetings From the Critique Club, Don!

I apologize for the late critique... the queue has been backed up for a long while. We seem to have the new requests under control and have started on the backlog from long ago.

Anyway, to the matter at hand.

What a wonderful image of a rather boring subject!

You've really gotten a lot of mileage out of an ear of corn. I love those silks... creating havoc and excitement. Your use of strong lighting also adds to the interest of the image. Well done!

For the record, I disagree with the comment asking for fill light on the dark side. I think that the mystery is my favorite part of the image.

I might have cropped the bottom off... so that the bright spots don't overpower the mystery... but that's my only nitpick.

Congratulations again on your HM!

Fourth place - that's pretty awesome! The silk really adds some flowing beauty to the shot. Congrats!

Congrats on the HM, Don. Corn is nice enough but your photo of it is so much more appetizing.

Nice shot Don. The silk shadows on the kernels add a lot to the depth of the image.
Congrats on just doing what you are very good at, and on having the voters appreciate it.
I'm also a Fuji fan. I wore out a couple of S3 Pro's before getting a Nikon.

I'd say to return it out of principle!

Wow! Very wonderful! So 3-dimensional, I wanted to rub my screen to make sure there weren't any bumps on it. Congratulations on the front page honorable mention.

I am a Fujifilm addict thanks to jagar advice but seldom appear on the first page. So, keep the camera after all.

It was 8 from me, btw.

Nicely captured details and good light angle for the strands, but the composition could probably have been improved. Also some fill light on the dark side couldn't have hurt - a white posterboard or piece of paper would probably do the trick well enough, failing that some aluminum foil or an actual reflector or light.
