This really is a wonderful image.
Wish I had bumped this before the end I don't know how I missed it.(sorry)
This would have done well in the Odriew challenge as well.

I did look at this intensely and yes, I guessed it was yours and marveled at how you spotted them. I liked its sadness - or it it my reaction to a nostalgic image?

A wonderful photograph. As in wonder-filled. There are so many interesting qualities - and so many deft decisions made – for us to admire.

Perspective is one; either you're very short, or you were smart enough to make yourself momentarily shorter to obtain the perfect (though slightly unnatural but the viewer doesn't realise that) eye line through the scene. It's something that cinematographers do by instinct, but not so many still photographers do it, except for the great ones.

The decision (probably close to inevitable I admit, but worth comment anyway) to have part-vehicles both entering and exiting the frame on the two sides has bracketed the two girls in the most dynamic yet subtle way. Had you waited, as a lesser eye might have done, for the sides to be 'distraction-free', some of the intimacy of your photograph would be leaking away out of the sides.

The fact that the two girls are looking together away from you, rather than facing you, also makes the photograph more interesting; more voyeuristic. That's key to the charm of this picture; that it is a non-intrusive peek into a relationship. It's a non-confrontational street photographic, and all the better for that lightness of breath.

The processing for a nostalgic, old-film effect is very often inappropriately deployed, but not here ... it's just perfect for gently elevating the emotional essence of this picture.

And then there's all the things that played right into your hands without your intervention or decision: the timeless style of the modest dresses, the sensible walking shoes, and the holding hands.

It's a lovely, memorable, enviable photograph. Please accept an Order of the Thumb, a 10, and a thank you for the picture.

This is excellent. I especially like the arrangement of street goings-on in between the two ladies.
