I don't know what "good ole golden rule" really means. But here's my attempt to create what a student sometimes goes through with assignments and all.

- Cropped a bit
- Adjusted Curves
- Converted to Monochrome using Channel Mixer
- Applied Unsharp Mask

I think your picture deserves much more than mine. Great job! Ribbon should be yours...

Wow: I am very impressed. This is a super moving image which touches a common chord in all us. This certainly deserves a ribbon. Congratulations on your 4th placing. This effort is so above the average. Excellent work!

Well, I experted a ribbon for this. But fell just below it. I still feel that this should have won a ribbon. Congats...

I really like how the face has a sureal look to it. This has a great graphical appeal and nice DOF. And no, you can't borrow a pen.

The more I look at this, the more I like it. I think I gave it a six first of all but I'm going to push it up to a nine. I love the clear focus on the fist snapping the pencil and the almost mask like face in the background. Lots of imagery here. Great shot

There are so few good quality images in this challenge. But this one really stands out. I love the contrast - the depth of the black. The drama. It's so compelling. Plus, you shot something totally different from everyone else. Bravo. 10

A great low key photograph that fits the challenge imo. I think the subject being out of focus and her reaction in focus was a plus to this photo. Well balanced and a good perspective. Great job! An additional note I was just reading on low key photography a night or two a go and the definition of low key photography fits your photograph well.
[Low key pictures concentrate on the darker tones, often conveying an atmosphere of tension or a powerful deep strength.] And IMO I believe that’s what you were trying to covey with your photograph. Just my 2 Cents!

Nice Job! The whole picture says it all! Nice focus, just where it’s needed and the face really adds to the whole concept of 'Breaking Point'! Excellent execution in this picture and a pat on the back well deserved.

This would have been even better in color, in my opinion.

i dont know for sure but i think I would have liked the face to be a little more in focus. But otherwise i liked it.

the face of the subject looks sad instead of angry enough to break a PEN..thats not so easy. anyways if the person looked angry, i think this would be much better. still a very good idea and picture quality is also as well.

I love this. Frankly, there is abslutely nothing wrong with this image and a lot that's right The only 10 from me. On a side note, this is both the best portrait and one of the images with amazing use of dof and amazing composition among all entries, including my own. bravo.

Excellent photo, composition, dof, but I'm still wishing that pen was really a pencil...regardless, I love it. Tops for me, 10.

Best on show in my opinion
Good luck
This should earn you a nice blue ribbon
I love the focus on the hand and the out of focus on her face.
The lighting is superb and creates a real mood.
Well done
good luck (I don't think you will need luck)
