Wow. I really didn't think this had the ability to place this well.

Its kind of a sappy story but a few weeks ago, I lost a bit of taste in my mouth and the right side of my face started drooping over a day or so, slow onset. Immediately I was thinking Bell's Palsy. I waited a few days and went to the doctor, (because I could not really talk effectively) and he immediately sent me to the hospital under Stroke protocol.(that is where I got the mask- and numerous tests, and heparin shots in the stomach, and vast amounts of blood tests and heart leads stuck to me.- and a 45min Mri of the brain, neck and carotids-all negative)) All was negative, and after a week of anti-viral and steroid I am 95% back on the right side.

Emotion. I couldn't smile for almost 3 weeks. Couldn't blink on the right, crinkle my eyebrow and nose. And my vision was off as well. Everything pulled right, got in the way, tasted like metal. So when I had the idea to show emotion under a mask, it was real, cathartic emotion for me. The story doesn't have to be autobiographical, it can be whatever the viewer wishes: disease, ebola, loss, frustration over a sick relative or bad diagnosis, etc.

Thanks for the comments and concern. I am near 100% at this point.

Excellent image. Sound like the same symptoms my husband experienced from being diagnosed with Lyme disease.

Wow - strong story to go with this photo. I was hoping it was just a set up and nothing emotional was really going on. Hopefully one day soon you will look back at this shot and with a 100% smile admire your ribbon. Congrats! (on the ribbon). Best wishes for a healthy recovery.

I like reading your comments.

I "read" this image as a doctor who had lost a patient.

I thought it was brilliantly depicted.

Congratulations on your ribbon!

Goodness Paul, that's why it looks so real; it WAS REAL! Hope that the incident becomes a distant memory after which remains a great shot.
