 He knew I was shooting the birds - he didn't know I was shooting him. He seemed a bit surprised when I showed him this shot afterwards, but he was pleased, too. He'd been feeding the gulls a little, and trying to see if they'd let him touch them. Very nice guy.

Overexposed by 1/3 stop, processed with a preset (tweaked just a bit) in Nik Silver Efex, no vignetting or spot editing. Cropped to 5x7 aspect to get rid of the arm of the bench and a bit of the post on the left.

PS - I wouldn't know enough to process it this way - it just came out this way due to the way the light was hitting everything. Here's the original jpeg:

Ethereal and moving. The postures are elegant, the movement wonderfully understated, the man's face so appealing. Admirable admixture of quasi-high key and quasi-low key. NYPD t-shirt -- perfect final touch.

This is a fun shot. I like the contrast of the darker happy guy and the slightly blown out surroundings. It captures the mood well of a bright day at the shore.
