Out at Conowingo Dam on a very cold day with yucky light. But the gull mob scene and the eagles were fun. How they all manage to avoid mid-air collisions I'll never know. There were a LOT of birds in the air.

Ordinarily I don't like really busy scenes, but for whatever reason this one appeals to me. Things in focus and not, a semi-creepy forest, birds everywhere sitting/flying/being, a couple of random Bald Eagles hanging out ... just lots to see. I don't know. I find it fun to explore.

Duotone brought out a couple of in-focus gulls. I may be over-thinking the processing on this one ;-)

PP - DxO Optics Pro (straightened, messed with lighting, HDR, sharpening), PSE (cropped slightly, convert to B&W, Nik CEP darken/lighten center, tonal contrastresized; Nik Sharpen; Nik CEP glamour glow).

Irresistible moment to witness without trying to save it forever. The photograph has the quality of a tapestry. It is a fragment of a very large tapestry, something on a vast subject such as "the music of the spheres".
The four horizontal registers are so perfectly interwoven. The grayness of the image can be probably still fine tuned but as it is we look at a fascinating photograph.

masterfully/mistressfully laid back for such a cacophony.

I like the idea, but it seems too sharp. I think it would have look better softer... (plus, the original colors were gorgeous. I don't know about the b&w. Somehow this scene looks very familiar... :)

and indeed, discerning the foreground from the background is a non trivial task

Wonderful quotation for the title - the layers here appeal to me very much. Love all the activity - this has the quiet feel of a remote location - I suspect the cries of the gulls produce almost white noise that increases the feeling of isolation and being IN nature.

almost didn't see the eagles. The horizontal elements dominate the chaos of detail.
