Very expressive interpretation. Focusing on the environment instead of the protagonist may be unexpected but so powerfully makes the point. I'm so moved and won't forget it.

I would have been OK with her being out of focus if the Exit sign was as well.

A nice surprise. Shallow DOF is used here in a refreshing and unorthodox manner. The fact that the only truly sharp detail in the scene is the word “exit” is a added delicacy.

nothing is more clear than the exit. like all beautiful things, it teeters on the edge of leaving.
