Challenge: Free Study 2015-05 (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Nikon D800
Lens: Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II
Location: Liwa, UAE
Date: May 10, 2015
Aperture: f/4
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/640
Date Uploaded: May 12, 2015

It's funny how you never know what you're going to get on a photo shoot. I went to the Liwa dunes, initially to get some more drone shots, and maybe some dunes. It was unusually cloudy that day, which is bad news for desert/sand photos, but I pressed on anyways. I got some decent drone shots, even got one published on 1x:

No Man's Land

After I thought I was finished, I was driving back, talking to my wife on the phone, when I saw a half-dozen camels walking down the highway. I yelled "camels!", hung up the phone, and followed these magnificent fellows for about half an hour as they meandered on and off the road.

I was tempted to use my 1x shot for the free study, but this shot finally won me over. Hope you like it.

I like this MUCH better than the 1x shot - right choice, as far as I'm concerned!

I do like it. The tones and processing meet the desert vibe as well. Well one.

beautiful subject, unusual composition and very appropriate (gritty) processing. but really it is the lines in the background, how the light shows them that makes this more than a very fine portrait. no problem with road signs. in fact they echo those background diagonals.

This is great, and so is No Man's Land. Just shows what perseverance and an extra half hour or so will turn up.

Great shot. I like that you left the arrow sign in the right edge of the image. That made me smile.
Congrats on the good finish in the FS.

Gouing back for comments--
Left this a huge 10.
What a great pleasure it must be to photo these guys that close.
If i had one little knock it would be the road sign. I might have cropped it out to make it look more "in the wild".

Wonderful capture and love the processing. My only complaint (it's small) is the sign in the background, would have loved it if they had been removed.

I like this a bunch. I really, really, REALLY wish those roads signs had been cloned out. 99% certain it would have been legal to do in this case (not prominent). Anyway ... good luck to you in the challenge.

I'm not docking points but would have added an extra point if the road sign wasn't there, it takes away some of the mystery for me.
