Many, many alewife, our local herring, are still working their way up stream to their spawning grounds ... while others are already returning to sea.

The water below the steps of the herring run, pictured here, gets pretty turbulent, for an otherwise smooth stream. Some areas by the steps, loved by the gulls who catch the herring and seem to eat them whole, have no protective vegetation overhead, while others, like this, are better protected.

This has been a great year with the number returning locally to spawn expected to reach a 20 year high. This comes after years of a steady decline.

The context for P-A-U-L's comment is that my image was corrupted for 36 hours and the bottom half was just was a solid, mainly lime green, pilexated, block of color.

Thanks for the votes and comments.

ETA: Finally completed the set with a red ribbon!!

ETA: Well that (the red) didn't last long but I won't object to getting a second blue.

A beautiful sketch of the pen of nature. I'd love this to be wallpaper or something huge to explore on a wall :)

Wow, quite an improvement over what I saw during voting. It is a bit nicer without the Sega Genesis green graphic along the lower half.
Lovely tones and complex reflections. The DQs are the fates bringing your score back into balance for the bad scores you got for the corruption of that day and a half. If you only knew someone on the site council who could make sure such things did not happen to your entries.
