Broad-tailed Hummingbird, male. This is an illustration of how we know we are looking at a Broad-tailed Hummingbird. When another male enters the territory of a male, he flares out tail and wings to appear "big". I was able to photograph front and back today. Canon 5Dmk3, Canon EF400mm f/5.6L USM, f/5.6, 1/2000s, ISO 1600, lens focal length 400mm. Moraine Park, RMNP. 06/17/15 2:11 PM MDT.

What a very beautiful and unusual bird and a great capture of it. Love the smooth background that really sets him off.

I'm enjoying being part of the DPL "First 10" Challenge. Yours is photo #9 in my random voting stream.

Nicely set off from the BG. An interesting position - not sure I've seen this tableau with tail feathers and wings in action on a hummingbird. That said, it's likely because I don't take much time with them... not a big fan, but this certainly shows off hummingbird feather in a cool way.
