This place is the "real Florida" almost like it was 100 years ago.
You can access about 15 miles of the creek with a kayak or canoe when the water is at normal levels. Camping is allowed along the creek.
The state took it over a couple of years ago, from the big land owner who fenced everyone off most of the creek. There was a big lawsuit that dragged on for years, and finally, the creek was deemed to be historically used as a navigable waterway, and therefore accessible to the public.
