This is a 216 piece set of the now hard to find "Buckyballs" that I shaped into a cone with no point. It used to be an all black set, but a friend ordered a smaller (125 piece) set of orange, and we thought it would be cool to mix 'em up a bit. I traded him for 1/2 of his set, and love the mix it created, especially when I see the touch of color it created in this shot!

All I had to do from that point was create the in house white/infinity wall (curved piece of printer paper propped by two cups), shove the lens right up close into the large end and fire away, catching the light that came in through the small gaps between magnets and the light reflecting off of the paper back into the smaller opening. I was really enjoying the shots until I tried the solarization look in CEFPro4, at which point it switch to "LOVE IT" mode.

Outtakes... 1 before the tweaks and solarization filter, and 1 of my son's set of all chrome buckyballs in B&W.

OnOne Perfect Effects 9.5 for some sharpening
Color Efex Pro 4 for a touch of "Solarization"

Congrats on a respectable finish. I also think this was underrated. In a challenge outside of DPL, I think it would have done better.

Hello from the critique club...

Interesting shot. Works perfectly for this challenge. I had no idea what it was until I read your description. I like the multiple colors illustrated here. Also you have nice leading lines that lead the eyes through the shot. Also I think the lighting turned out nice. Overall I think you did a good job with this capture. Happy shooting

Inside of a cable wrap?

Great composition & good processing. Maybe could've used a little bit more spot cleanup.

I like this a lot. The leading lines and the dark work well.
