30 minutes for me to paint this on my hand...

30 minutes to be happy with my shot.

An hour. BadaBING! I usually obsess until I've spent several hours getting it right... and then I go back to the first thing I shot. *smile*

Edit: Ok. Scrap that whole "30 minutes to shoot" thing.

I decided the zebra alone on black was not interesting enough. So, I spent over an hour trying to get the leaves right, my hand right, and get up and down off of the floor to check the shot in the camera. It's really hard for me to remember how an ear should be between shots. *sigh* I had it up... down... twisted... backward... forward... If the ear was right... then the eye wasn't in focus. I was just guessing where my focal point hit each time. *sigh again*

I really hope everyone else uses someone else's hand. That would have been a BUNCH easier. *sigh*

I'm sure others will have much better paint jobs than mine (I'm not an artist... but I admire them greatly... and I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express a few years ago), but I guarantee that if I had a video of me setting up my tripod, changing lens, and shooting... all one-handed... that the video would make it to America's Funniest Videos. Ha!

I really should have thought that whole "setup thing" through before I painted me. *sigh again*

Ha!

[Later today]

UPS Guy: "What happened to your hand?"
(it's ugly from the other side)

Me: "I painted a zebra on it." [holds it up in the same position as my entry for him to see]

UPS Guy: "Oh."

LOL!!

I'm thinking we'll never get our packages now that he thinks I'm insane.

I probably am.
I just uploaded the shot I shot way before the one I had entered earlier.

*sigh yet one more time*

Oh... that nostril? It actually looks like my finger is indented, doesn't it?!

Yeah... that was an accident.

I did paint it to try to look that way, but it doesn't look indented on many other shots. It had to be the perfect angle.

Yep. Accidents happen.

*grin*

*yet another sigh*

Edit again: Ok. Looking at this more... I REALLY love it! I'm hoping to redeem myself for the high score I got in Curiosity challenge that caused such an uproar 'cause the image wasn't wonderful (I said that from the "get go"), yet the score was.

So... push it off my front page with a higher score than that, please.
Ha! Like it will EVER go away... *heavy sigh*

6.9778 after three days and 45 votes.

And... only one comment.

(THANKS, Caba!)

I'm surprised at that, though. Normally, if my score is that high... well, folks have liked it enough to comment.

I'm thinking DPL has worn people out and they'll come back soon. :D

I'll take that score... even with no comments, though. :D

Post Ribbon: GEE GOLLY WOW!

I'm so surprised that there weren't a gagillion painted hands. That's what I'd thought would be in the gallery... and my pitiful painting of my own hand would suffer to the real artists' talent.

(My family also gave that assessment... without my mentioning my worries. They are really good to tell me the truth now. They weren't when I first joined here. They all said, "Yeah! I love it! Not at ALL what I wanted from them. *sigh*)

I'm THRILLED with my ribbon, of course! *beams*

Thanks bunches for all of your wonderful votes and sweet comments!

I'm still in wonder at that UPS guy...

I mean... really. HOW MANY PEOPLE does he encounter each day who've painted a zebra on his/her hand, that... it becomes... "Oh." ??

Ha!

Still laughing...

Very clever and well done, my only nitpick being that zebras are grazers, not browsers. Paint a giraffe next time, same pose and you're good to go :-)

Thanks for your congratulations below!

They are grazers... but they occasionally eat a leaf or two from a tree. Especially the painted ones. :D

Very impressive paint job, Lydia! And yes, the leaf in the mouth makes it extra special.
