Challenge: Surreal Still Life (Advanced Editing VII)
Date: Sep 27, 2015
Date Uploaded: Sep 27, 2015

Surreal, in this case, was in the creation of this photo, and not so much the result. While using my 300mm lens to get a better view of the blood moon I decided to do a few hand-held 30 second exposures. I expected to see results similar to the top half of this photo, I didn’t expect to see the image that appeared in the bottom half. How did the independent streaks of light appear? There were no lights, roads, etc, in my view when I took the photo. How did the trees appear? There was only one palm tree in my field of view for the 30 seconds. Sometimes there are pixels on our sensors that are activated by something other than light, it is up to us to find them. :)

Thank you for the comments, favs and bling, much appreciated!

Unusual, awkward collage. Like Surrealists do.

I'm hanging this in my fantasy art gallery

This is the best moon shot ever. It reminds me that there are those who think the moon is hollow and that we are the original ETs.

Crazy, beautiful, surreal. Love the little hiker and of course the blood moon is amazing. 10

Even though not to my understanding of a still life, the wonder of this image has, in my opinion, launched it past such stricture with its keen appreciation of the surreal. The succinct yet resonant title is perfect. The patch of scenery extracted from darkness is a world apart, but with the sense of continuity implied by the streaking lines of light. The blood moon darts about like a loosed balloon. And a person walks distantly into the scenery. The colors are gorgeous. I'm transported. My personal favorite in this challenge.

Pretty much an antithesis of a "still" life, in that it's all moving, but it makes for a nice still life just the same!

I like the mystery. a bit ET and a bit back to the future.
