Collection: Favorites - Ribbons
Camera: Canon EOS-300D Rebel
Location: Easton, CT

Aperture: f/10
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/500
Galleries: Emotive, Landscape
Date Uploaded: Oct 31, 2004

Nothing like waiting 'till the last minute! I got up early the day of the challenge deadline, and the sun was just starting to break through the clouds. I grabbed my camera (and the Canon 70-200 f/4L lens with Polarizer that usually lives on it) and went cruising around the neighborhood to see what I could find. I found a lot.

For this particular shot, I just pulled the car over and leaned my head out the window, using the side mirror to brace the lens. I accidentally left the camera set to ISO 400, so there was a little grain, but not terrible. Processing was pretty minimal- a slight crop, levels and a saturation boost.

Wow.
Right place at the right time. Great eye!
Frankly I think this deserved a bit higher placing. Congrats on a top-ten finish in this challenge.

I've been trying to get some shots like this lately; well-done under what looks like tricky exposure conditions.

This is just plain gorgeous. I can't wait to see what the conditions behind the shot were. I can hear the silence, smell the late autumn aromas of decay, feel the chill in the air and the foggy mist on my face and wonder what is over the hill. Kudos on the simplicity and elegance of this.

Amazing shot, one I've tried to capture many times without sucess. I lioke the way there is colour in the leaves yet most of the shot seems to be mono. Not sure if its selective desat or just the high contrast that makes it seem that way? Thats the way an effect should be subtle but still create the effect. The dappled light gives depth and the 3D effect, the road leads you into the shot, its a pity it bends off to the left so much but I guess the light wasn't going to hang around for too long and wait for you to better compose the shot? Excellent, a 10 from me.

Very nice exposure. Looks almost like if was generated with 3D software. Like the way the trees and colours are seen in the background.

Oh, wow. I love fog and mist. This image is almost magical. I love the way it is framed by the two trees on the sides. Very well composed with the middle tree off-centre and the road leading you into the misty unknown. Beautiful.

One of the best captures of sun dappled forest fog I've ever seen. Beautifully done with a high degree of difficulty. Among my top picks.

this pathway would be one of my picks to ribbon.... The picture takes me to this place, it is an intimate and seems like a familiar view, even though I have probably never been here.

Nice... This picture has a spiruatal atmosphere.. Good work. What i´ve seen so far the Cannon is the only one that can get those colors and dof like on the trees.
Hope i´m wrong ;) 8

Your use of light is amazing. This photo gives me the feeling of surprise -- like when walking in the forest an strumbling onto a scene that takes ones breathe away. One of my ribbon picks in this challenge so full of great shots. BOL

One of the few times an image like this can really, truly make me feel it. I am there, and that is a wonderful feeling.

nice picture...i love the light and dark shadows...i would like to see it exposed a little more so the greens and yellows show better but a nice visual effect

What an amazing shot. This is something that I have often tried to capture, but have never had a shot come close to this. I am anxious to see if you did some dodging/burning to create a more powerful feel. Whatever you did, it works!

I think this would be complemented very nicely by a simple border.
Also the sharpening seems a little harsh for having such soft light.
Minor things, but a very well done image. 7

Awesome! If only you had a wolf there at the end of the path and it would be a perfect cover of "little red riding hood". I absolutely love it. (10)
