Be On The Watch

Any feedback you care to share is welcome.

The images for this essay were captured in the same neighborhood as my last essay Raining Under Manhattan Bridge. The bright morning sunshine took me down a different path.

I never got to leave comments on the February essays. Yours intrigued me a lot since it's about the place where I live, the city that I love the most.
I am always interested how other people see NYC. It's always a matter of chance; how many days you stay in a place, in what season, which neighborhood, with whom you travel, where you stay or if the pillow in the hotel was comfy enough to let you sleep in spite of the sirens and noise of the streets.

You looked at one aspect and you saw (or was attracted to) the empty, wet streets and therefore the title. The grit of NY. One facet. How can we do justice to a place that has so many facets?!
Needless to say, I loved your images and, as other commenters noted, the long shadows that are a characteristic of this place.

This essay, to me, is the most cohesive set you've done. You capture the light so well. And what results in the subjects is beautiful, an essence rather than just another neighborhood.

A hugely enjoyable essay with images after my own heart. Catching some wonderful light on your subjects and some deep shadows to fall into.

it's funny how somehow, by some process I can't explain, your photos are about the light while Clive's photos are about the shadows. Particularly exciting to me is the light on the body, either in luminescent shapes or just a stunning silhouette. The photos fit together very naturally.

Another captivating soliloquy. It embodies some of the essence of NY, layer upon layer of grime and social consciousness, with the current generation of the living building their own layer and story. The more they tell you the less you know, to paraphrase Diane Arbus. I like the long shadows, the high contrasts and active stillness. For a metropolis, it seems lonely. Well done.
